Love isn't Love

If we had a theme song for the last three months, it would be a song my family performed years ago at a ward party. I do not remember the title or verses, but the chorus reads something like this:

"Love isn't love until you give it away, give it away, give it away.
Love isn't love until you give it away: you end up having more."

Sometimes we confuse love with worldly elements, such as time, food, money, etc. They are tangible, quantifiable and fixed: using some means we have less.
But not with love.

At times, the prospect of another baby brings concern. How will we manage? What do you do when they all cry at once? Mama only has two hands to help, and yet so many little mouths who call for help. "Help me please!" with the belt and the dolly and the light saber and the origami. Yet love is different.

Little James has brought us smiles, giggles, hugs, cuddles, and more love. Lucy constantly strokes his hair, Laird chatters to him throughout day and Jeffrey will hold him for the longest time. He is a bit of a magnet: multiple times a day, all crowd around him as in this photo. Another child to love means we have more love in our home, not less. Loving this little baby has given us more than we started with.

(Perhaps we should call him Not-so-little-James at 15 lbs and 8 oz)
